The former church was probably built in the 17th century using the masonry of the chapel of the medieval Castle of Kígyókő. The Catholic order reacquired the church in the 1730s from the Lutherans and had its dilapidated chancel restored in the mid-1700s. A transept was added in 1777 and a steeple in 1830. On the Gothic stone baptismal font on the southern side, we can see the coat-of-arm of the Ostffy family with little bird legs placed in an arched shield. The Baroque altarpiece depicting the assumption of Mary was painted by István Schaller in 1731.
Behind the altarpiece there are medieval fragments of carvings. The pulpit was prepared in Empire design while the baptismal font is made of copper. A unique feature of the church is its Roman stone slate with an inscription on it in the wall, on the northern part of the chancel. It had been walled up and was found during work done on the electric network (see the horizontal lines left by a chisel).
The slate is believed to have been erected by the soldiers of Brigetio (Szőny), liberated German or perhaps Celtic slaves to pay tribute to Roman gods. It is absolutely unique as archaeologists have found only slate one of the same kind, in Northern Africa
