Count Ervin Batthyány set up a reformist school in 1905 in his estate in Bögöte. He was helped by his colleagues who later also taught at the school such as Herbert Nadler, who later became the head of the Budapest Zoo. Involved was also Lajos Hegedűs, who managed the school established for handicapped children from 1913. Another such prominent figure was writer, politician and journalist Lajos Traczai. The school was heavily criticised and Count Batthány moved to England in 1907. The reform school passed into state ownership in 1916. Today the building is home to a cultural house named after Count Ervin Batthyány.
The statue of the count was inaugurated in 1994 by mayor Elemér Patyi and Professor Lajos István, the president of the Association for Vas County.
In 2006, a memorial plaque was put on the wall of the cultural house.
