The baroque church was constructed in 1784. The building adorned with a beamed ceiling has a gallery supported by wooden columns on three sides. Legend has it that the inscription carved into one of the seats can be contributed to Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi “Spes confisa Deo nunquanm confusa recedit” (One's belief in God will never leave one ashamed"). It is claimed that Petőfi, deep in love with Róza Csáfordi Tóth, was watching the lady from this spot.
This church was also the venue for Sándor Weöres' baptismal ceremony.
A living memorial of the history of the village is the legendary Tessedik acacia standing in the courtyard of the Lutheran church. This is hailed as Hungary's first acacia tree planted by Sándor Tessedik in the 18th century. Under the foliage of the tree there have been several famous Hungarians (mainly literary figures) including Sándor Petőfi, Károly Kisfaludy, Sándor Tatay and Ágoston Pável.
Behind the church visitors can see the tomb of the Ostffy family erected in 1857 and bearing the coat-of-arms of the Ostffys. Csönge, Dózsa Gy. str. 12. Tel.: +36 20 770 3062
